More electric vehicles are showing up on the roads around Murfreesboro every year. One of the things owners love most is skipping oil changes. It’s true that an EV needs less routine service than a gas car, but less isn’t the same as none.
Tires are the biggest thing to watch. Electric vehicles are heavy because of their large batteries, and they deliver power instantly when you press the pedal. Both of those things wear tires faster than many owners expect. Regular rotations and pressure checks help them last, and cooler fall weather lowers tire pressure, so October is a good time to check.
Brakes are a little different on an EV. Much of the time, the car slows itself down using the electric motor, which means the brake pads may last a very long time. Because the brakes don’t get used as much, though, the moving parts can stick or rust, especially in humid Tennessee weather. Brake fluid also needs to be changed on schedule, just like any other car.
Many EVs use a coolant system to keep the big battery at the right temperature. That coolant has a service schedule too, and it’s important for the battery’s long-term health.
Don’t forget the small stuff. EVs still have a regular 12-volt battery that powers the computers and lights, and when it gets weak, the car may not start. They still have cabin air filters, wiper blades, suspension parts and alignment that need attention over time.
We service electric vehicles along with gas cars and trucks, so you don’t have to drive across town or wait weeks for a dealer appointment for routine care. Call Stones River Auto and Exhaust at (615) 961-6322 or stop by 1601 Flat Rock Rd in Murfreesboro, Monday through Friday from 8 to 5.
